SEATTLE (Nov. 7) -- Cathleen Price (Fr.,
Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow) slammed nine kills to lead the Seattle
Pacific University volleyball team over Simon Fraser University
30-16, 30-19, 30-21 in a non-conference exhibition match
Wednesday.
SPU is currently ranked 5th in the NCAA West
Region and Wednesday's win marked the program's fourth consecutive
20-win season.
The Falcons (12-5, 20-6) snapped the Clan's
(17-15) five match winning streak, including a 3-1 victory over
newly-crowned GNAC champion Wester Washington two weeks ago. The
Clan claimed the NAIA Region I Independent Championship last week,
but was simply flat against the Falcon offense which recorded an
impressive .340 hitting percentage.
SPU got off to an early lead and built
momentum, not allowing the Clan to mount any sort of run until the
later moments of the third game when it was too late.
The SPU defense was in top form as well,
holding the Clan to a .072 hitting clip. Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr.,
Oregon City, Or./Canby) added to her SPU all-time record with a
team-high 11 digs and chipped in three service aces as well.
SPU hosts WWU this Saturday at Brougham
Pavilion in the season finale. The match is scheduled to begin at
7 p.m.
