SEATTLE (Nov. 6) -- Gene Woodard scored eight
of his 14 points in the final 12 minutes as Seattle Pacific
University pulled away to defeat The Son's Blue Angels 86-67 in a
men's preseason basketball game at Brougham Pavilion Tuesday
night.
Brannon Stone (Sr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) added
12 points and nine rebounds and Eric Sandrin (Sr., 6-10, Bothell,
Wa./Shorecrest) contributed 11 points and 12 boards for the
Falcons, who are ranked 16th in the NCAA Division II preseason
poll. Redshirt freshman Jordan Lee (Fr., 6-0, University Place,
Wa./Life Christian) had 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
SPU trailed much of the first 30 minutes. Jesse
Keeley's (Jr., 6-7, Tacoma, Wa./Bellarmine) tip-in gave it the
lead for good, 52-50, with 10:36 remaining. It was part of a 21-4
run in which Woodard (Jr., 6-4, Edmonds, Wa./O'Dea) scored eight
points. He made 5-9 field goals and each of his four free throws.
LaFelle McGilvery, an SPU alum, led the Blue
Angels with 16 points. Jared Stevenson, formerly of Western
Washington, had 14.
Seattle Pacific finished with a 52-34 edge in
rebounds, including 15 offensive boards in the second half. Both
teams hit 40 percent from the field.
SPU hosts the Northwest All-Stars in another
exhibition game Friday at 7. The regular season begins Nov. 16
when the Falcons face Indianapolis in the first round of the
Vitamilk Tip-Off Classic.
