MONMOUTH, Or.-Western Oregon's Lydia Shannon
scored in the 97th minute to hand Seattle Pacific University a 1-2
overtime loss in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference soccer game
Saturday afternoon. The loss douses any hope of a GNAC title for
the Falcons in their first year of women's varsity play. Seattle
Pacific finishes the season 7-5-0, 8-10-1.
Shannon scored her first goal of the afternoon
just one minute into regulation (44:00).
Seattle Pacific's Michelle Sanders (Fr.,
Centralia, Wa./Centralia) equalized at 97:00 to send the game into
overtime.
Leading scorer Andrea Larsen (Sr., Portland,
Or./Central Catholic/Oklahoma State) assisted on the play. Larsen
finishes her career as both Oklahoma State University and Seattle
Pacific University's career leader in goals scored. The senior
also leads the Falcons in total points.
SPU keeper Jennifer Hull (Fr., Eugene,
Or./Sheldon)saved 12 balls in the match but could not stop
Shannon's game winner off of Wolves teammate Mariel Chandler's
corner kick.
Western Oregon (7-4-0, 11-8-0) out shot Seattle
Pacific 16-6.
Corner kicks were dead even at four apiece.
The Falcons were picked in a preseason poll to
finish sixth in the GNAC, but will likely end the year in third
place.
