SEATTLE (Nov. 2) -- Monica Abrahamson (Sr.,
Spokane, Wa./Rogers) and Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Deer
Park/Cornell) each recorded a team-high 12 kills to lead the
Seattle Pacific volleyball team over University of
Alaska-Fairbanks, 30-24, 30-16, 19-30, 30-25 in a conference
matchup Friday at Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons are currently ranked 5th in the
NCAA West Region and have now won 22 of their last 23 home
matches, dating back to 1999.
Four Falcons (11-5, 18-6) recorded
double-figure kill totals against the Nanooks (10-5, 13-7).
Cathleen Price (Fr., Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow) and Carri Colvin
(Jr., Vancouver, Wa./Prairie) each slammed 11 kills to join
Abrahamson and Wiiest in double figures.
The SPU defense also performed well Friday,
holding the Nanooks to just .076 hitting for the match.
Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr., Oregon City,
Or./Canby) moved closer to SPU's all-time kill mark with a
team-leading 15-kill outing. Kamahoahoa now needs 18 kills to
claim the all-time lead. She also recorded a team-high five
service aces.
Abrahamson equaled Kamahoahoa's 15 digs to help
lead the Falcons and chipped in a team-high four blocks as well.
Angel Fairbanks led UAF with 14 kills.
SPU hosts University of Alaska-Anchorage
tomorrow at Brougham Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at
7 p.m.
