SEATTLE (Oct. 27) -- Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane,
Wa./Deer Park/Cornell) recorded a team-high 17 kills and 11 digs
to lead the Seattle Pacific volleyball team over Northwest
Nazarene, 30-18, 23-30, 30-16, 30-22 in a conference matchup
Saturday at Brougham Pavilion. SPU is currently ranked 5th in the
NCAA West Region. The Falcons have now won 21 of their last 22
home matches, dating back to 1999.
For three of four games Saturday, the Falcon
(10-5, 17-6) offense was spectacular versus the Crusaders (4-12,
8-14). In the first game of the match, SPU recorded a .533 hitting
percentage, led by Wiiest who recorded eight kills. The Falcons
fell asleep at the wheel, dropping game two, but were back in
control in no time. SPU rattled off 15 straight points, including
14 straight serves and two aces for Monica Abrahamson (Sr.,
Spokane, Wa./Rogers).
The Falcons finished the match hitting .295 --
their third highest mark of the season -- behind four players who
finished with double-figures. In addition to Wiiest, Cathleen
Price (Fr., Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow) slammed 12 kills, while
Abrahamson and Lesley
Kamphouse (Sr., Sumas, Wa./Nooksack Valley)
each hit 10. Katy Higgins (So., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) finished
with a team-high 52 assists.
Rachel Roberts led the Crusaders with 12 kills.
SPU hosts University of Alaska-Fairbanks Friday
at Brougham Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
