Falcons Volleyball Rolls Past Crusaders
October 27, 2001

SEATTLE (Oct. 27) -- Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Deer Park/Cornell) recorded a team-high 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Seattle Pacific volleyball team over Northwest Nazarene, 30-18, 23-30, 30-16, 30-22 in a conference matchup Saturday at Brougham Pavilion. SPU is currently ranked 5th in the NCAA West Region. The Falcons have now won 21 of their last 22 home matches, dating back to 1999.

For three of four games Saturday, the Falcon (10-5, 17-6) offense was spectacular versus the Crusaders (4-12, 8-14). In the first game of the match, SPU recorded a .533 hitting percentage, led by Wiiest who recorded eight kills. The Falcons fell asleep at the wheel, dropping game two, but were back in control in no time. SPU rattled off 15 straight points, including 14 straight serves and two aces for Monica Abrahamson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Rogers).

The Falcons finished the match hitting .295 -- their third highest mark of the season -- behind four players who finished with double-figures. In addition to Wiiest, Cathleen Price (Fr., Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow) slammed 12 kills, while Abrahamson and Lesley

Kamphouse (Sr., Sumas, Wa./Nooksack Valley) each hit 10. Katy Higgins (So., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) finished with a team-high 52 assists.

Rachel Roberts led the Crusaders with 12 kills.

SPU hosts University of Alaska-Fairbanks Friday at Brougham Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
