SEATTLE (Oct. 25) -- Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane,
Wa./Deer Park/Cornell) slammed 17 kills to lead the Seattle
Pacific volleyball team to sweep over Seattle University, 30-19,
30-28, 30-21, in a conference matchup Thursday at Brougham
Pavilion.
SPU is currently ranked 5th in the NCAA West
Region. The Falcons have now won 20 of their last 21 home matches,
dating back to 1999.
The Falcons (9-5, 16-6) entered Thursday's
match with the Redhawks (3-13, 8-16) eager to rebound after losing
two straight conference matches last weekend on the road. SPU
started the first game even with SU before pulling away for a
convincing victory .
A pair of service aces late in the second game
by Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr. Oregon City, Or./Canby) gave the
Falcons the momentum they needed to erase a surge by the Redhawks.
SPU finished off the match with a convincing
victory in game three to notch the second conference sweep of the
season for the Falcons.
The Falcon offense registered an impressive
.296 hitting percentage versus the Redhawks -- their second
highest mark in a conference match this season.
Monica Abrahamson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Rogers)
joined Wiiest in double-figures with 10 kills and led the Falcons
in digs with 12. Katy Higgins (So., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond)
recorded three service aces and led the team in assists with 44.
Lizzy Safranski and Nicole Taylor led the
Redhawks with nine kills apiece.
SPU hosts Northwest Nazarene Saturday night at
Brougham Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
