Lacey, Wash. (Oct. 20) -- Leah Wiiest (Sr.,
Spokane, Wa./Cornell/Deer Park) slammed a season-high 22 kills and
Katy Higgins (So., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) recorded a career-high
68 assists as the Seattle Pacific University volleyball team fell
to Saint Martin's College 30-21, 20-30, 30-24, 17-30, 15-7 in a
conference matchup Saturday in Lacey. The loss marks the second
straight upset suffered by the Falcons.
After falling Friday to Central Washington, the
Falcons (8-5, 15-6) were unable to shake their recent slump
against the Saints (4-9, 9-13). The Falcons offense improved to
.230 hitting, but were again stifled at the net by the Saints who
recorded 12 blocks and 85 digs. SPU also had trouble serving,
finishing the match with 13 service errors.
Cathleen Price (Fr., Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow)
and Lesley Kamphouse (Sr., Sumas, Wa./Nooksack Valley) joined
Wiiest in double-figures with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Carri
Colvin (Jr., Vancouver, Wa./Prairie) led the defensive effort with
18 kills while Price picked up four blocks. Higgins' 68 assist
performance is the best for any GNAC player this season.
Missy Evans led four Saints in double-figures
with 15 kills.
The Falcons return home Thursday, Oct. 25, to
play Seattle University in the first match of a four-game
homestand.
