SEATTLE (Oct. 13) -- A goal by Ian Chursky 10
minutes into sudden death overtime earned Seattle University a 1-0
non-conference men's soccer win over 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific
University Saturday at Championship Field.
The Falcons (8-6-0) were held scoreless for the
second time in four games and were swept by the Redhawks (8-4-0)
for the first time since 1969. Seattle U., ranked No. 15 in NAIA,
won 2-1 at Interbay Stadium Oct. 6.
Chursky's golden goal was created by a 40-yard
throw into the box by Justin Miller. The ball was headed back into
the middle by Nick Thurber and Chursky emerged out of a crowd to
strike the ball from four yards past Falcon goalkeeper James Ward
(Fr., Salem, Or./Sprague) at 100:16.
Brent Egbert (So., Bellingham, Wa.) had the
best scoring chance for SPU, but his 22-yard free kick sailed just
over the crossbar. SPU finished with an 8-2 advantage in corner
kicks but Seattle U. had more shots, 19-11.
Seattle Pacific is still in contention for its
12th straight NCAA Division II playoff berth but has lost three of
its last four. It plays its next two games on the road, beginning
Thursday against Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
