Falcon Streak Ends at Five as SU Dominates in Women's Soccer
October 9, 2001

SEATTLE (Oct. 9)- Andrea Gutierrez scored late in the second half to lift Seattle University over Seattle Pacific University 1-0 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Championship Field.

The Falcons (5-2, 6-7-1) went into the match with a five-game conference win streak but were unable to muster an offense against a stingy Redhawk defense. Seattle Pacific had moved into first place in the conference with a 3-1 victory over Western Washington last Saturday but is now tied with Seattle University (4-2-0, 11-3-0).

Tafara Pulse assisted on Gutierrez' goal with a pass from the left side. Gutierrez rocketed the ball past Seattle Pacific keeper Jennifer Hull (Fr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) from five yards out (87:35).

Hull turned out seven saves in the match and was challenged often. The Redhawks out shot Seattle Pacific 19-4.

Seattle University was picked to win the GNAC in a preseason poll.

The Falcons play next at Central Washington on Monday (Oct. 15). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00. The Falcons beat Central earlier this year 2-1. SPU plays Seattle University on November 1, at Interbay.
