SEATTLE (SEPT. 29)- Andrea Larsen gathered in a
loose ball and scored just over four minutes into sudden death
overtime as Seattle Pacific University defeated Western Oregon
2-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match
Saturday evening at Interbay Stadium.
The overtime strike was Larsen's (Sr.,
Portland, Or./Central Catholic/Oklahoma State) team leading fifth
goal of the season and her first game winner.
The Falcons (3-1, 4-6) took an early lead mid
way through the first half on Larsen's right side breakaway and
cross to a diving Laura Walker (Fr., Colorado Springs,
Co./Palmer). Walker half-volleyed the ball past Western Oregon
keeper Moani Mundo at 59:23. It was Walker's first goal of the
season and Larsen's second assist.
The Wolves' (2-2, 5-5) Sarah Parker equalized
with less than four minutes (86:55) to play in the match off a
loose ball after a Western Oregon free-kick from the top of the
penalty box.
At 94:08, Larsen was in the right place at the
right time. The senior forward found herself six yards in front of
the Wolves' goal mouth battling with two Western Oregon defenders
for a loose ball. Larsen trapped the ball, beat one defender and
rifled a shot past Mundo near the right post to end the match.
Seattle Pacific keeper Jennifer Hull registered
five saves.
With the victory, Seattle Pacific moves into
second place in the GNAC behind conference leader Western
Washington. The Falcons play in Bellingham October 3.
