SEATTLE (Sept. 29) -- Bob Schefter's goal
sparked a three-goal outburst in a span of less than five minutes
early in the first half and Seattle Pacific University proceeded
to post its sixth straight win, opening Great Northwest Athletic
Conference play with a 6-0 defeat of Northwest Nazarene Saturday
at Interbay Stadium.
The Falcons (1-0-0, 7-3-0) got a goal and an
assist from Grant Falco (Jr., Spokane, Wa./University), Erik
Skipper (Sr., Hillsboro, Or./Glencoe) and Joe Kinzel (So.,
Shoreline, Wa../Shorewood) while goalies James Ward (Fr., Salem,
Or./Sprague) and Adrian Cravalho (Jr., Mililani, Hi./Kamehameha)
split the shutout.
Manfredo Rendon (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome)
and David Smith (Fr., Corvallis, Or.) added second-half scores for
SPU, which finished with a 33-2 advantage in shots. Smith has
scored three goals in the last four games.
Schefter (Sr., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) opened
the scoring in the 12th minute on a header from Mike Pardini's
(Jr.. Pasco, Wa.) corner kick.
Pardini had two assists. Falco and Kinzel found
the net at 14:10 and 16:11, respectively, for a 3-0 lead. Falco,
Kinzel and Skipper, who returned to the lineup after missing a
game with an ankle injury, each have four goals this season.
Brett O'Conner made six saves for the Crusaders
(0-2-0, 1-10-0) in the first period and Paul Cornelius had three
in the second half.
Seattle Pacific hosts Cal State Bakersfield
Tuesday night at 7 and then resumes GNAC play Oct. 6 versus
Seattle University.
