September 22, 2001

Complete Sundodger Open results

SEATTLE (Sept. 22) -- Seattle Pacific University got a sixth-place performance out of Jamie Witt in the women's cross country race and Nathanael Castle ran 11th in the men's at Saturday's Sundodger Open at Lincoln Park.

The 12th-ranked Falcon women, with 143 points, finished fourth, behind Northwest College (70), Willamette (128) and Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Western Washington (137) while the men took 12th.

Dana Boyle of Puget Sound led from start to finish, winning the women's 5000-meter event in 17 minutes, 13 seconds. Witt (So., Folsom, Ca.) held her position throughout and was timed in 18:10. Western's Ashlee Vincent was the top GNAC harrier, taking fourth in 17:56. The Falcons' Rachel Ross (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.), the defending champion and winner at Saint Martin's last week, dropped about five positions in final 1000 meters and was 19th in 18:33.

Castle (Jr., Gooding, Id.) stayed with the front pack virtually the entire 8k. He was the third runner from a GNAC team to cross the line.

British Columbia's David Mile was a runaway winner in 24:03. Castle was timed in 24:51. Northwest Nazarene appears to be a top contender for the GNAC crown, winning the team title with 51 points and all five scores among the top 24.

Next week the Falcons run at the Western Washington Invitational.
