ROHNERT PARK (SEPT. 21)- Cassie Martinez headed
in a corner kick with just over ten minutes to play in regulation
to lift 21st-ranked Sonoma State over Seattle Pacific University
2-1, in a non-conference women's soccer match at Rohnert Park
Friday afternoon
Sonoma led 1-0 at the break but Tara Wood (Fr.,
Bellevue, Wa./Newport) gathered in a cross from Melissa Ellingson
(Fr., Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) and bulleted a shot past the
Cossacks' goalie to tie things up in the 63rd minute before
Martinez headed in the eventual winner.
Sonoma State (6-2) finished with a 16-7
advantage in shots. Keeper Jennifer Hull (Fr., Eugene,
Or./Sheldon) made three saves for the Falcons.
Seattle Pacific (3-5-1) has lost three in a row
and will return to Seattle to try and break the streak against No.
3 San Francisco State, Monday afternoon. Kick off is at 2:30.
