SEATTLE (Sept. 20) -- Carri Colvin (Jr., Brush
Prairie, Or./Prairie) and Lesley Kamphouse (Sr., Sumas,
Wa./Nooksack Valley) each recorded career-high kill totals to lead
Seattle Pacific past cross-town rival Seattle University, 32-30,
20-30, 30-20, 30-28, in a conference matchup Thursday at the
Connolly Center.
The Falcons (2-2, 9-3) looked to rebound
Thursday against Seattle (0-4, 4-7) after losing two of their last
three conference matches, but it would prove to be difficult
without star hitters Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr., Oregon City,
Or./Canby) and Cathleen Price (Fr., Gresham, Or./Sam Barlow) who
are both nursing injuries.
The Falcons nearly lost the first game, but
managed to fight off a pair of match points to narrowly edge the
Redhawks. In game two, SPU had trouble finishing plays as Seattle
dug one ball after another to finally outlast the Falcons. The
Falcons stepped
up their intensity and aggressiveness in the
final two games to put finally put away the pesky Redhawks.
After recording career-high kill totals on
Monday versus Central Washington, Colvin and Kamphouse again
stepped it up Thursday. Both slammed a career-high 17 kills apiece
to lead the Falcons, while Colvin served up a career-high five
service aces and Kamphouse notched a team-high 2.5 blocks.
Kamphouse also recorded a team-high .467
hitting percentage and Colvin swung for a .300 percentage. On
defense, Monica Abrahamson (Sr., Spokeane, Wa./Rogers) recorded a
season-high 18 digs for the Falcons.
The Falcons look to continue their climb back
up the GNAC standings when they travel to Northwest Nazarene this
Saturday, Sept. 22. The match tips off at 6 p.m.
