ARCATA, Calif. (Sept. 15) -- Michelle Sanders
set-up two goals on corner kicks and Alissa Peterson scored on a
brilliant individual effort as Seattle Pacific University won its
second straight women's soccer game, 3-2 at Humboldt State
Saturday.
The Falcons also got goals from defenders Erin
Roberts (Jr., Issaquah, Wa./Issaquah) and Karen France (Fr.,
Woodland Park, Co./Palmer) in raising their record to 2-1 in the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference and 3-2-1 overall.
After falling behind, SPU score three
unanswered goals, including two within a 6-minute span early in
the second half. Sanders (Fr., Centralia, Wa.), who has four
assists in the last three games, found Roberts for a 6-yard shot
inside the near post to draw SPU even at 1-1. France smashed home
what proved to be the game-winner in the 57th minute after BreeAnn
Milligan (Fr., Idaho Falls, Id./Skyline) flicked on the corner by
Sanders.
Seattle Pacific had taken the lead for good in
the 52nd minute. Peterson (So., Plymouth, Mn./Wayzata) scored her
first goal of the season on a 25-yard blast following a 40-yard in
which she beat two defenders on the dribble.
Humboldt State (1-3-0/1-7-0) got a goal and
assist from Jenna Hunter.
The Lumberjacks had opened the scoring in the
7th minute on a goal by Emily Kintscher.
