Men's Soccer Postponed, All SPU Events Now Rescheduled
September 14, 2001

SEATTLE (Sept. 14) -- Each of the five Seattle Pacific University athletic events postponed this week, including Saturday's men's soccer game at Simon Fraser, have now been rescheduled for later dates. In addition, Falcon fans are encouraged to make donations to a relief fund during upcoming home events.

In support of the relief efforts underway in the eastern U.S., SPU fans may make contributions to the World Vision's American Families Assistance Fund at each home event. World Vision (www.worldvision.org) has established the American Families Assistance Fund to assist families victimized by the September 11 tragedy in New York. The AFAF was established to provide victimized families with health and basic life needs, grief and post traumatic stress counseling and memorial assistance. All of the donations to this fund will go directly to the victims' families.

Actions taken earlier this week by the SPU administration and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as a consequence of the terrorist attacks on America involved postponement of two volleyball matches, two men's soccer games and one women's soccer game.

In volleyball, the Falcons will now host Central Washington Monday (Sept. 17) and Saint Martin's Oct. 3 in Brougham Pavilion. Both will begin at 7 p.m. Those GNAC matches had originally been scheduled for this weekend.

In men's soccer, SPU will visit Western Washington for Sept. 27. Kick-off is 4 p.m. at Bellingham's Civic Stadium. A tentative new date for tomorrow's game at Simon Fraser is Oct. 10 in Burnaby, B.C.

Finally, in women's soccer Seattle Pacific will host Western Washington Oct. 6 in a 4 p.m. GNAC contest which had originally been set for Sept. 11. at Interbay Stadium. The Falcons return to action Saturday (Sept. 15) at Humboldt State despite having their scheduled Thursday flight from SeaTac Airport canceled. They arrived in Arcata, Ca., today after the 575-mile, 2-day drive.

The men's and women's cross country teams will race at the Saint Martin's Invitational in Lacey, Wa., Saturday at 10.
