ARCATA,if (Sept. 8) -- Leilani Kamahoahoa
struck for 18 kills and added 10 digs for 23rd-ranked Seattle
Pacific University as the Falcons notched their first Great
Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball victory in a four-game
win over Humboldt State at East Gym Saturday night.
Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Deer Park) hit
for 15 kills and Monica Abrahamson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Rogers 13)
as SPU (1-1, 8-2) rebounded from a road loss at Western Oregon to
defeat the Lumberjacks 30-18, 27-30, 30-18 and 30-25.
Seattle Pacific attacked at a .308 percentage,
including .378 in the third game when it seized control of the
match. Kamahoahoa (Sr., Oregon City, Or./Canby) had only two
errors in 49 attempts and also served a pair of aces.
Wiiest had three blocks and a match-high four
aces, and Abrahamson had no errors in 21 attempts. Setter Katy
Higgins (So., Redmond, Wa/Redmond) had 47 assists and 10 digs. SPU
finished with a 15-5 advantage in service winners.
Humboldt State (0-2, 2-8) got 18 kills from
Joella Schiepan and 14 from Erin Jackson in losing its eighth
straight to SPU.
The Falcons return to Brougham Pavilion Friday
night (Sept. 14) to host Saint Martin's in another GNAC match.
