SAN DIEGO (Sept. 6) -- Brothers Michael and
Bobby Schefter accounted for all three goals as Seattle Pacific
University squared its men's soccer season record with its second
win in three days, 3-1 over UC San Diego Thursday night.
Michael Schefter (So., Yakima, Wa./West Valley)
struck twice within a span of just 1 minute, 37 seconds of the
second half and older brother Bobby (Sr., Yakima, Wa./West Valley)
staved off the Tritons' attempted comeback with a goal with just
3:14 remaining. The Falcons, who play their first eight games on
the road, finished a 6-game, 16-day trip through California and
Arizona at 3-3-0.
Following a scoreless first half, Michael
Schefter put SPU in front 2-0, beginning with a header from Grant
Falco's (Jr., Spokane, Wa/University) corner kick at 54:14 and
then adding a 10-yard drive at 55:51. Mike Pardini (Jr., Pasco,
Wa.) and Erik Skipper (Sr., Hillsboro, Or./Glencoe) each assisted
on the latter. Schefter has scored a team-high four goals this
season.
UC San Diego (0-3-0) pulled a goal back in the
58th minute through Sean Summers and twice forced SPU goalie James
Ward (Fr., Salem, Or./Sprague) to make saves. Ward then set-up the
final goal with a 70-yard punt which Brent Egbert (So.,
Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) flicked on for Bobby Schefter to hit in
stride.
Seattle Pacific finished with a 17-14 advantage
in shots and Ward made four saves. UC San Diego committed 21 fouls
to the Falcons' eight and the tritons were issued five yellow
cautions and a red card in the 84th minute.
SPU opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference
