NAMPA, Id. (Sept. 5) -- In its opening game of
Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, the Seattle Pacific
University women's soccer team was dealt its second straight
defeat, 3-2, at Northwest Nazarene Wednesday afternoon.
Andrea Larsen (Sr., Portland, Or./Central
Catholic) scored her third goal in four games and Anna-Kate
Peterson (Fr., Portland, Or./Cleveland) also added a second-half
score after a corner kick by Michelle Sanders (Fr., Centralia,
Wa.) but the Falcons (0-1-0/1-2-1) could not recover from a 2-0
halftime deficit.
Seattle Pacific hosts Central Washington in its
inaugural home game Saturday at 7 at Interbay Stadium.
The Crusaders remained unbeaten (1-0-0/4-0-0)
by staking a 2-0 lead shortly before halftime on goals by Lacey
Rasmussen and Jamie Swanson less than five minutes apart.
Swanson's goal, coming 34 seconds before intermission, came after
SPU keeper Jennier Hull (Fr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) blocked but
could not hold a shot by Randi Hufford.
For the first time in four games SPU finished
with an advantage in both shots (18-12) and corners (8-4) but NNU
goalie Shauna Voss responded with 12 saves, 11 of them coming in
the second half, when the Falcons fired 15 of their shots.
