CARSON, Calif. (Aug. 31) -- Suffering the first
defeat of its inaugural season, the Seattle Pacific University
women's soccer team allowed five goals in the first 57 minutes and
was beaten 5-2 by Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference
match Friday afternoon at Toro Field.
The Falcons (1-1-1), who were coming off their
first win Tuesday at Vanguard, were down 5-0 before Melissa
Ellingson (Fr., Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) and Erin Roberts (Jr.,
Issaquah, Wa./Issaquah) scored in the second half.
Tara Wood (Fr., Bellevue, Wa./Newport) assisted
on both goals but later fell to the ground unconscious after being
struck in the head by the ball. The game was halted for more than
20 minutes. She regained consciousness and was later taken to a
hospital by aid car suffering from a concussion.
Diane Garza and Tanya Wilson each scored twice
for Cal State Dominguez Hills, which remained unbeaten (4-0-0).
Garza also had two assists.
The Toros finished with a 22-5 advantage in
shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.
SPU keeper Jennifer Hull ((Fr., Eugene,
Or./Sheldon) made 12 saves.
