SEATTLE (Aug. 31) -- Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr.,
Oregon City, Or./Canby) recorded 14 kills and a .433 hitting
percentage to lead the Falcons in three-game sweep of Grand Canyon
University and their second win of the Seattle Pacific
Invitational Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons (5-1) jumped all over the Antelopes
(3-2) to start the match.
An early 8-1 lead was all Kamahoahoa and the
Falcon offense needed to coast through the first game. In the
second game, Falcons coach Kelli Radloff rested some of her
starters, a move that proved beneficial as SPU needed all it had
to put away Grand Canyon in the third game.
The Antelopes jumped out to an early 6-3 lead
in the third game to show the Falcons they would not go away
without a fight. SPU kept the Antelopes within striking distance
all game before finally retaking the lead for good at 27-26.
Kamahoahoa also led the Falcons in digs with
12. Lesley Kamphouse (Sr., Nooksack Valley/Sumas, Wa.) recorded
eight kills and no errors on 10 total attacks for a .800 hitting
percentage.
Fourteen service errors and 29 attack errors
hurt the Antelopes versus a tough SPU squad with its eyes on the
tourney sweep. Kelly Weiss led the Antelopes with 12 kills while
Natalie Jandreau recorded a team high 29 assists.
The tournament continues Saturday as the
Falcons host Cal Poly Pomona at 1:30 p.m. and Ferris State at 6
p.m.
