SEATTLE (Aug. 22) -- Cory Janzen, a two-time
all-conference midfielder, has left the Seattle Pacific University
men's soccer team for personal reasons and will not play for the
Falcons this season. The season begins Friday night in Phoenix
versus Grand Canyon.
Janzen, one of only three seniors on the squad
and a three-year starter, informed Coach Cliff McCrath late
Tuesday that he was fatigued by playing virtually year-round the
past year.
McCrath said Janzen played in the Pacific Coast
League during the spring and summer and joined a Christian
outreach team in touring Asia earlier this month. Janzen arrived
back at his Vancouver, B.C. area home only two days before the
Falcons opening day of preseason training Aug. 12.
Although Janzen does not plan to attend classes
at SPU in 2001-02, both player and coach left open the door for
his return next fall. Janzen scored 15 goals and had seven assists
in his first three years and he started 62 of 63 games either in
midfield or at sweeper. |
