SEATTLE (May 10) -- A much-heralded meet record
and an impressive unbeaten streak will be on the line Saturday
(May 12) when most of the Northwest's top collegiate track &
field athletes converge on the Ken Foreman Invitational.
Most of the events will take place at Husky
Stadium, with jumps beginning at 10 a.m. and the first race at
11:30. Throwing events begin at 10 at West Seattle's Sealth
Stadium.
Ja'Warren Hooker, Washington's Olympic
sprinter, is entered in the 400-meter dash again this year. It was
at last year's meet that Hooker made his 400 debut in a blaze of
speed, running to a UW and meet record of 44.91 seconds. He set
the meet 200 meter mark of 20.97 in 1999.
Seattle Pacific's Rachel Ross hopes to remain
unbeaten this season versus collegiate opposition when she runs
the 1500. Ross has won eight of 10 800- and 1500-meter races this
season, and she's coming off Pacific West Conference repeat titles
at both distances last week. The Huskies' Gillian Palmer figures
to give her a stiff challenge. The two have yet to meet
head-to-head this spring.
Among the teams represented at this late-season
qualifying meet are Portland, Central Washington, Western
Washington, Western Oregon, Portland State and Simon Fraser. It is
the final opportunity to post NCAA qualifying marks for Division
II teams such as SPU.
Admission is free and parking at Husky Stadium
is complimentary after 12 noon ($3 in the morning).
