SEATTLE (Apr. 10) -- Kelley Berglund, the
starting center as a sophomore for Washington State this past
women's basketball season, will transfer to Seattle Pacific
University and play for the Falcons in 2001-02.
Berglund, graduate of Port Angeles High School,
played in all 28 games for the Cougars and led the team in
rebounding (5.5) and blocked shots (0.7) while averaging 9.2
points. She announced her intention to leave the school Mar. 19
and visited the SPU campus Apr. 6.
Seattle Pacific coach Gordy Presnell is pleased
with Berglund's choice, and believes she is a good fit for both
the school and his program.
"I'm excited that Kelley has
chosen to become a part of our program," said Presnell. "her
talent, skill and attitude will be a welcome addition to our team."
The Falcons finished this past season with a
record of 24-5, champions of the Pacific West Conference and
runner-up in the West Region of NCAA Division II. They lost four
seniors to graduation, including the entire starting frontline.
Last fall, Presnell signed five recruits, all freshmen, to
national letters of intent. Among them was 4A state player of the
year Emily Faurholt of Kennewick. |
