LOS ANGELES, Ca.-Seattle Pacific University's
Alison Siegel and Cassie Althauser finished among the West
Region's top competitors on vault and balance beam in the 2001
NCAA West Regional gymnastics meet at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion
Saturday night.
Siegel (Jr., Oakland, Ca.) rushed the vault and
stuck her landing for a 9.725, her seventh score over a 9.725
during the 2001 season. Earlier in the year, Siegel broke the SPU
school record on vault, launching a 9.850 against Western Michigan
on February 28. The junior owns the highest vault regional
qualifying average (9.780) in USA Gymnastics and finished second
highest among at large competitors and 18th overall at UCLA.
Althauser (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) successfully
flipped the balance beam for a 9.525, good for fifth place among
at-large individuals and 29th place overall. The senior ranks
second nationally on beam, but finished the 2000 season as a USAG
All-American on the uneven bars.
In the night's featured team competition, NCAA
top-ranked UCLA won the meet with a team score of 197.775, while
Oregon State finished second (194.075) and Brigham Young
University, third (193.050).
Siegel and Althauser will meet up with their
Falcon teammates before heading to the USA Gymnastics national
meet at UC Davis Thursday (Apr. 12) night. Team preliminaries will
begin Thursday and team finals are slated for Friday. The meet
will finish with the individual finals Saturday (April 14) night.
