PARKLAND, Wash. (Mar. 10) -- Middle-distance
star Rachel Ross of Seattle Pacific University was a double winner
at the Salzman Invitational track & field meet Saturday,
finishing first in both the 800 and 1500-meter runs.
Ross (Jr., Kennewick, Wa.) met the NCAA
Division II provisional standard in the 1500 in a personal-best 4
minutes, 35.3 seconds and successfully defended her 800 title in
2:12.51, edging Washington's Courtney Inman (2:12.65). She also
anchored the 4 x 400 relay was runner-up to the Huskies in
3:54.36.
The Falcons, who had five winners and four
provisional marks in all, finished second to Washington in the
combined men's and women's team scoring, 469-207. Central
Washington was third (183).
Chelsie Pentz of the Huskies joined Ross as the
meet's only female double winners. Pentz sprinted to victory in
both the 100 (12.17) and 200 (24.59). Spokane Community College's
Pat Ray won the men's 100 (11.21) and 200 (22.02).
Jamie Witt (Fr., Folsom, Ca.), already a
provisional qualifier in the 3000, added a victory and provisional
time of 17:43.82 in the 5000. Karen Summers (Sr., Bremerton,
Wa./Seattle Christian) took first in the 400 intermediate hurdles
in 1:01.1. Triple-jumper Natalie Dorow (Jr., Billings., Mt.) won
for the second time in as many weeks, her best jump measuring 36
feet, 6 1/4 inches.
Abby Harris (Sr., Auburn, Wa./Auburn) cleared
5-5 3/4, a provisional standard, in the high jump and placed
second.
Stephanie Huffman (Jr., Brush Prairie,
Wa./Prairie), competing in four events, finished second in both
the long jump (17-6 1/4) and javelin (128-10), was third in the
high jump (5-1 3/4) and ran sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.94).
For the SPU men, pole vaulter Brandon
Littlefield (Fr., Selah, Wa./Eisenhower) was the top scorer,
clearing 12-11 3/4 for fourth place.
The Falcons will send a select group of
athletes to the Oregon Preview in Eugene next Saturday. |
