DAVIS, Ca. (Mar. 10) -- For the first time in
five meets the Seattle Pacific University gymnastics team's total
slipped under 190 points and the Falcons fell to both California
and UC Davis in a three-way meet at Recreation Hall Saturday
night.
Cal, ranked 19th nationally among Division I
programs and fourth in the West Region, won the meet at 194.700.
Host UC Davis, with with the third-best score in team history, was
next with 192.375 and SPU totaled 189.925.
The Falcons and Aggies rank third and fourth,
respectively, among teams competing for the USA Gymnastics
Collegiate Nationals on April 12-14, also at Recreation Hall. SPU,
which had scored 191.450 or higher in the last four meets, had
defeated UC Davis in Seattle Mar. 2
Jennifer Christman (Fr., Benicia, Ca.) and
Cassie Althauser (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) were the high finishers for
the Falcons (6-10). Christman tied for fifth on vault with a
9.625, while Althauser was tied for fifth on beam at 9.700.
Cal swept the top four places in both vault and
bars. Janet McKnight won the vault at 9.775 and finished in a tie
for second on bars at 9.800. Pari Olver was second on both events.
Katreece Stone won both the floor exercise (9.925) and beam
(9.875) while teammate Carrie Kreifels captured the individual
all-around with a four-event total of 39.200.
The Falcons complete the regular season
Saturday night at the Shanico Invitational in Corvallis, Or.
