SAN JOSE (Mar. 9) -- Setting event records on
the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise, the San Jose
State University women's gymnastics team defeated Seattle Pacific
University 194.900-191.450 in a dual meet Friday night at Spartan
Gym.
The Falcons (6-8) equaled their second-highest
road score of the season but suffered their second loss in as many
meetings with the Spartans (7-5).
Seattle Pacific, ranked No. 3 among USA
Gymnastics (Division II) teams, has scored 191 points or higher in
each of its last four meets and seven of the last eight.
Alison Siegel (Jr., Oakland, Ca.) led SPU,
finishing runner-up on vault with a 9.750. Erin Kawasaki (Sr.,
Seattle, Wa./Kennedy) tied for third place on bars with a score of
9.775 and Cassie Althauser (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) shared the bronze
on balance beam with a 9.800.
San Jose State posted team scores of 48.825 and
48.975, respectively, on the uneven bars and floor exercise.
The Spartans won all four events plus the
all-around. Dani Albright, who captured the all-around with a
score of 39.325, finished first in the vault with a 9.800 and
floor exercise tying her personal best of 9.900. She and teammate
Tracy Cheshier tied for first on the balance beam with a 9.850
score. Shirla Choy of San Jose State won the uneven bars with her
personal best of 9.900.
Seattle Pacific competes with California and UC
Davis at Davis Saturday night.
