March 3, 2001

Husky Stadium -- Rachel Ross ran a personal record 2:09.74 in the 800 meters, Natalie Dorow won the triple-jump, and the Falcons won the 4 x 400 meter relay as Seattle Pacific University opened the 2001 track & field season at the Husky Classic Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium.

Ross (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.) surpassed the automatic standard for NCAA qualification in the 800 meters with her second place finish. The senior has made the trip to NCAA Division II nationals twice already, and is a returning All-American in the 800 meters.

Dorow leaped 36 feet, 4 3/4 inches to take first place in the triple-jump while long jumper Morgan Ranta finished second in the long-jump at 18-0 3/4.

Abby Harris and Amy Cowden leaped second and third place finishes in the high jump (5-3, 5-1).

In the throws, returning All-American heptathlete Stephanie Huffman threw the javelin 135-7 for a second place finish and Dionna Anderson won silver in the shot put ring, putting the silver ball 41 feet and a quarter inch.

The mile-relay was clocked in a 3:52.96, nearly five seconds ahead of its nearest competitor, the University of Washington.

The Falcons head to Tacoma for the Salzman Invitational, Saturday, March 10. The invitational is hosted by Pacific Lutheran University.
