SEATTLE, Wa.-Alison Siegel won vault and floor
exercise and Cassie Althauser finished second on bars and beam as
Seattle Pacific University beat arch rival UC Davis 192.675 to
191.450 in a gymnastics meet Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.
Seattle Pacific's team score was the sixth
final tally over 190 points in the 2001 season. The Falcons,
ranked No. 3 among USA Gymnastics teams, set a school record team
total earlier in the week with a 193.700.
Siegel (Jr., Oakland, Ca.) vaulted a 9.775 to
start the night and struggled through the next pair of rotations
after a mishap on the uneven bars. The all-arounder rebounded to
post a first place tie with Davis' Ericka Ruelas, scoring a 9.825
on floor. Siegel finished second in the all-around to Ruelas at
night's end with a 38.275.
Ruelas is the USA gymnastics defending champion
on both bars and floor, and finished runner-up in the all-around
at last year's national meet.
Althauser (Sr., Centralia, Wa.) swung a 9.750
on bars and negotiated the beam for a 9.875. Teammate Anastasia
Ahr (Fr., Chelan, Wa.) finished third on beam with a 9.800. Kim
Carey danced her way to third place on floor with a 9.775 and
Kristin Strid (So., Kingsburg, Ca.) notched a third place finish
in the all-around (37.950).
UC Davis' Ruelas won the all-around competition
with a final score of 38.950.
The Falcons take to the road for a pair of
