Falcon Women 19th, Men 22nd in Hoop Polls
February 27, 2001

SEATTLE (Feb. 27) -- Going into the final weekend of the regular season, Seattle Pacific University is ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Division II women's basketball poll and No. 22 in the men's.

The ranking represents a drop of two places for the women, whose 10-game win streak was snapped last week at Central Washington, while the men moved up two spots while extending their streak to nine wins in a row.

In women's play, Seattle Pacific (21-4) can clinch the Pacific West Conference championship Thursday night (Mar. 1) when its hosts Humboldt State. Their final game is at home Saturday (Mar. 3) versus Western Oregon.

The men, also 21-4, can successfully defend their PacWest title by defeating No. 15 Western Washington Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion. A victory for the Vikings would give them the conference crown and perhaps the No. 1 seed in the region.

NCAA tournament bids will be announced Sunday with the top six teams in the region earning berths. The West Regional playoffs for both men and women are Mar. 8-10, and will be hosted by the No. 1 seeds. Regional rankings will be released tomorrow (Feb. 28).
