Siegel Sets Record as High Scoring Falcons Beat Sac State
February 24, 2001

SEATTLE, Wa.-Alison Siegel set a new school record in the all-around competition and Erin Kawasaki tied for first on the uneven bars as USA Gymnastics 3rd-ranked Seattle Pacific University began a three meet home stand with a win over Sacramento State 192.475 to 192.075 Saturday afternoon at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (5-6) have been averaging a 189.460, the third best average among USA Gymnastics teams, and have posted team scores above 191 points four times in the last five contests. The 192.475 total was the second highest team total in school history. The record of 192.650 was set in 1998, when the Falcons finished runner-up at the USAG national meet.

Siegel (Jr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood Christian) kick-started the Falcons during the first rotation with a 9.850 vault. The junior took top honors on that apparatus and also finished ahead of Sacramento State's

Toni Peterson for first on the balance beam with a 9.825. Siegel finished third on floor exercise (9.750) and swung a 9.700 on the uneven bars, leading to a school record 39.125.

Siegel's record mark in the all-around eclipsed the school mark set in 1998 by Deni Boswell (39.025). The junior returning All-American owns four of the top 10 individual all-around scores in the Seattle Pacific annals.

Kawasaki (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Kennedy) tied with the Hornets' Jolane Parr and Toni Peterson for first place on the uneven bars. All three athletes scored a 9.775. Kawasaki also vaulted a 9.650.

Teammates Kim Carey (Sr., Everett, Wa./Mariner) and Anastasia Ahr (Fr., Chelan, Wa.) joined Siegel and Kawasaki on the podium, taking second on floor exercise and third on beam, respectively. Carey also notched a third place finish on vault.

Seattle Pacific continues its home stand with a meet against Western Michigan on Wednesday (Feb. 28). Official start time is scheduled for 7:00.
