ANCHORAGE, Ak.-Stephanie Urrutia registered 15
points and had 10 rebounds as 19th-ranked Seattle Pacific
University held Alaska Anchorage to the lowest opponent point
total since 1992, crushing the Seawolves 62-37 in a Pacific West
Conference women's basketball game Saturday night at the UAA
Sports Center.
The Falcons (20-3, 15-3) need just four more
wins to tie the record for consecutive victories held by the 1997
squad (13). That year, SPU advanced as far as the West Region
championship game in NCAA playoffs.
Urrutia (So., Sunnyside, Wa.) assisted on a
game high seven plays to go with her double-double, and Gus Balogh
(Sr., Szombathely, Hungary) netted 14 points and in doing so,
moved ahead of Linnea Jarvits (1994-'97) into the No. 5 spot on
Seattle Pacific's career scoring chart.
Brianne Prescott (Jr., San Jose, Ca., Mitty/San
Jose City College) canned a trio of treys and finished the night
with 12 points. Prescott was four of nine from the field.
Anchorage was led by Dana Bottoms' 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Liz Guppy (Sr., Beaverton, Or./Westview) yanked
down 10 rebounds and had four blocks for the Falcons.
Seattle Pacific out rebounded the Seawolves
55-40, and connected on 38.5 percent (25 of 65) of its shots from
the field to Anchorage's 19 percent (13 of 63).
SPU is currently ranked No. 2 in the West
Region and is two games ahead of second place Western Washington,
in the PacWest Conference. The winner of the conference and the
top six teams in the region receive automatic berths to the NCAA
tournament at the close of the regular season.
The Falcons play a pair of road games Thursday
(Feb. 22) and Saturday (Feb. 24) nights against Saint Martin's and
Central Washington before returning to Seattle to play two home
contests to finish out the regular season. Tip-offs for the Saint
Martin's and Central Washington games are scheduled for 5:00 both
nights.
