February 15, 2001

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Feb. 15) -- Behind the career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds of Brannon Stone, Seattle Pacific University held on for its sixth straight win, 80-72 over Saint Martin's College Thurday night at Brougham Pavilion.

John Hubbard (Sr., 6-5, Inglewood, Ca.) added 23 points, 17 coming in the second half, as the Falcons (11-3, 18-4) continued to keep pace with leader Western Washington (12-2, 19-3) in the West Division of the Pacific West Conference.

Seattle Pacific led virtually the entire game and pushed in front by 15 points with 11 minutes to go before the Saints (4-10, 9-14) rallied, coming within three points on three occasions in the final 4 minutes.

Hubbard scored six points--four free throws and a breakaway dunk--in the last 74 seconds, giving SPU an added cushion.

Andrew Brogden and Gerrit Eades scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Saint Martin's, which has lost eight of its last 11 and five in a row to Seattle Pacific.

Stone (Jr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) carried the Falcons for the first 26 minutes, scoring 22 of the team's first 50 points. He finished 10 of 12 from the floor, making all four of his 3-pointers. He also had three blocked shots and three assists.

Seattle Pacific grabbed its biggest lead of 59-44 by reeling off nine unanswered points. Hubbard hit a deep trey and a layup and Eric Sandrin (Jr., 6-10, Bothell, Wa./Shorecrest) capped the run with back-to-back baskets.

Saint Martin's retaliated with seven points in a row to stay in contention, and with 1:24 made it 71-68 on a Brogden layup. The Falcons proceeded to score the game's next five points from the foul line to end the threat.

Seattle Pacific shot 51 percent from the field (25-49) and was 24 of 28 at the line. Hubbard made 7 of 14 field goals and all eight of his free throws.

Saturday night SPU hosts Central Washington at 7 while Saint Martin's visits Western.
