Both of Seattle Pacific University's basketball
teams find themselves in excellent position for NCAA Division II
playoff bids as the season enters the final three weeks. The
Falcon women remained second in the West Region behind Cal Poly
Pomona in this week's rankings. Meanwhile, the SPU men moved up
two positions to No. 3. The region's top six teams earn tournament
bids next month.
The women's team (11-3, 18-3) leads the Pacific
West Conference and has won seven in a row going into Thursday
night's game at Alaska Fairbanks. The Nanooks are currently sixth
in the West.
A five-game homestand for the men (10-3, 17-4)
begins Thursday night at 7 when Saint Martin's visits. The Falcons
have won five straight and nine of the last 10 games. Two of the
four teams to defeat SPU this season are Cal State San Bernardino
and Western Washington, which are ranked 1-2 in the region.
Central Washington, which visits Brougham Pavilion Saturday, is
sixth.
