SACRAMENTO, Ca.-Alison Siegel tied for first on
vault and Kristin Strid finished third in the all-around
competition as Seattle Pacific University finished second to host
Sacramento State 191.375 to 188.250, but ahead of UC Santa
Barbara's 187.750 Friday night at Hornet Gym.
The Falcons (3-4) dipped more than three full
points lower than last week's 191.475 as just two Falcons earned
scores worthy of the podium at meet's end.
In the third rotation, Siegel (Jr., Oakland,
Ca./Redwood Christian) posted a 9.675, tying her with Sacramento
State's Lara Gould for top honors.
Siegel competed all-around for the first time
in 2001 and finished the meet with a 37.175. The returning
All-American all-arounder has been slowed as of late by a rotator
cuff injury.
Strid (So., Kingsburg, Ca./Joint Union) tumbled
off an impressive 9.550 on floor exercise and wound up the meet
third in the all-around, posting a 37.550. Siegel was fourth and
the Hornets' Toni Peterson won first place honors with a 38.075.
Kim Carey (Sr., Everett, Wa./Mariner) finished
tops for the Falcons on floor exercise with a 9.625, the second
highest score posted by SPU in the meet, next to Siegel's vault
score.
The Falcons tumble against Division I
powerhouse Boise State on February 17. Start time is scheduled for
6:00.
