SEATTLE, Wa.-Stephanie Urrutia registered a
double-double 19 points and 13 rebounds and Valerie Gustafson
scored 12 points as Seattle Pacific University notched its 11th
straight win over Seattle University 73-39, in a Pacific West
Conference women's basketball game Thursday night at Brougham
Pavilion.
The Falcons (10-3, 15-3) held the Redhawks
(1-12, 3-15) to just eight field goals in the game, four in each
half. Seattle University shot 19.5 (8 of 41) percent from the
field to the Falcons' 43.7 (31 of 71).
Urrutia (So., Sunnyside, Wa.) scored 13 of her
points in the second half and was 7 of 15 from the field in the
game, and a perfect 4 of 4 from the charity stripe. The sophomore
shooting guard's 19 points, 13 boards and four steals were all
game highs. Urrutia assisted on five plays.
The Falcons forced the Redhawks into 22
turnovers and assisted on 23 plays to Seattle University's 5.
Becka Beard (So., Bremerton, Wa./King's West)
filled in at the point guard slot for an injured Kerie Hughes and
had seven points and seven assists. Hughes (So., Mount Vernon,
Wa.) left the game midway through the first half with a knee
injury.
Valerie Gustafson (Fr., Black Hills, Wa.)
scored 12 points for SPU and Jessie DeLaunay and Marissa Young
each had nine points to pace the Redhawks.
The Falcons square off against PacWest leader
Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon as Seattle Pacific
celebrates homecoming in the first half of a double-header with
the SPU men. Tip-off is at 1:30 for the women's game, men to
follow.
