SEATTLE, Wa.-Kim Carey and Jennifer Christman
tumbled career-high scores on floor exercise and vault,
respectively, as Seattle Pacific University (2-2) fell to Division
I Stanford and Washington, but scored a 191.875, the fourth best
total on the all-time university charts at a gymnastics meet
Sunday afternoon at Seafirst Arena.
The total, although short of Stanford's 196.050
and Washington's 195.925, was the highest final score by an SPU
squad since 1997 when the Falcons won the USA Gymnastics National
Championship.
Several Falcons performed outstanding routines.
Carey (Sr., Everett, Wa./Mariner) flipped a 9.750 on floor
exercise and earned a 9.625 on the uneven bars while Christman
(Fr., Benicia, Ca.) nailed her vault for a 9.700. Erin Kawasaki
(Sr., Seattle, Wa./Kennedy) negotiated the balance beam for a
9.700 and Kristin Strid (So., Kingsburg, Ca.) scored a 9.700 on
floor for SPU.
The Falcons (2-2) celebrate Homecoming with a
meet against San Jose State on Saturday night. Start time is
scheduled for 8:00 p.m. following the women's and men's basketball
games.
