SEATTLE, Wa.-Gus Balogh's 20 points led five
Falcons in double figures as Seattle Pacific University edged
Saint Martin's College 85-76 in a Pacific West Conference women's
basketball game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.
With the victory, head coach Gordy Presnell
remained perfect vs. Saint Martins (8-7, 5-5) at home, notching
his eighth straight win over the Saints on the floor of Brougham.
The Falcons (12-3, 7-3) have the second best record in the Pacific
West Conference.
With 7:43 to play in the second half and the
game tight at a 63-57 SPU advantage, Brianne Prescott (Jr., San
Jose, Ca./San Jose CC/Mitty) nailed three treys in two minutes
igniting an 11-4 Falcon run.
Saint Martin's cut the score to 71-64 on a Kami
Koehler free throw with 5:08 to play, but could not recover.
Seattle Pacific stretched its lead to as much as 11 points over
the last five minutes.
Balogh (Sr., Szombathely, Hungary) netted 14 of
her game high 20 points in the first half. The senior finished the
night with five rebounds and four steals.
Kerie Hughes (So., Mount Vernon, Wa.) and
Stephanie Urrutia (So., Sunnyside, Wa.) scored 15 and 14 points,
respectively. Hughes assisted on seven plays and Urrutia accounted
for seven of the Falcons' 32 rebounds. The Saints out-rebounded
Seattle Pacific by two, totaling 34 boards in the game.
Koehler led Saint Martin's with 18 points and
six rebounds. Point guard Robin Johnson had nine assists.
Jana Holme (Sr., Tacoma, Wa./Wilson) and
Prescott had a dozen points each. Prescott finished the game four
of nine from beyond the arc.
The Falcons head to Western Oregon for a
Thursday evening game.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30. Seattle
Pacific's next home game will be against Seattle University on
February 1.
