SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 11) -- Gus Balogh scored a
game-high 22 points and Kerie Hughes had 10 points and eight
assists as 19th-ranked Seattle Pacific University won it's 11th
straight at home, defeating Alaska Anchorage 63-49 in a Pacific
West Conference women's basketball game Thursday night at Brougham
Pavilion.
Balogh (Sr., 5-10, Szombathely, Hungary) scored
15 of her points in the first half, including seven straight
points during a three-minute stretch, five minutes into the game.
She also had five rebounds and a pair of assists. Hughes (So.,
5-7, Mount Vernon, Wa.) was 3-4 from the field and perfect 4-4 at
the line for the Falcons, who moved to 5-2 in conference and 10-2
overall. She also had four steals.
Stacie Lukkes (So., 6-0, Kent, Wa.) came off
the bench to pull down a team-high seven rebounds for SPU, and
assisted on three plays.
Anchorage (1-6, 3-9), which was the last team
to defeat the Falcons at home, was led by Tiffany Massey and Dana
Bottoms, who scored 14 points apiece. Massey had nine rebounds.
SPU shot only 40 percent from the field (to the
Seawolves' 34 percent), but hit 8-16 3-pointers.
Seattle Pacific can move into a tie for the
lead in the PacWest with a win over first place Alaska Fairbanks
Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
