LEWISTON, Idaho (Dec.13) -- Forwards John
Hubbard and Brannon Stone each scored a career-high 28 points as
19th-ranked Seattle Pacific University won its third straight
game, 99-68 over Lewis-Clark State in a non-conference men's
basketball game Wednesday night.
Hubbard (Sr., 6-5, Inglewood, Ca.) and Stone
(Jr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) each connected on 5-9 three-pointers
and Seattle Pacific shot 60 percent from the field in handing the
Warriors their worst home defeat in four years. Lewis-Clark State
(7-4), ranked No. 11 in NAIA, had won 19 of its last 20 home
games.
SPU sizzled with 69 percent (20-29) shooting in
the second half. The Falcons finished 13-25 from behind the arc
and also tied a school record for free throw accuracy, making all
16 of their shots at the line.
Seattle Pacific (5-2), which has outscored its
last three opponents by a combined margin of 103 points, blew open
the game by scoring the first 12 points of the second half to go
ahead 55-32. Stone hit a trey and six points during the run while
Hubbard scored four of the points. L-C State eventually pulled
within 11 but SPU responded by reeling off 11 straight points.
Stone sank four free throws and Hubbard capped it with the last
five points, including a three-pointer from the corner.
Stone made 7-7 free throws and also added five
assists and four steals. Hubbard was 10-16 from the floor.
Lewis-Clark State, which made 46 percent of its
field goals, was led by the 19 of reserve Beau Barney. SPU
finished with a 33-23 advantage in rebounds. The Falcons host
Willamette in a non-conference game Monday night at 7:30 before an
11-day recess for Christmas.
