SEATTLE (Dec. 9) -- Senior forward John Hubbard
hit for 16 points and Adam Harris and Nick Johnson added 14 apiece
as 22nd-ranked Seattle Pacific University stormed to an early lead
and went on to beat The Evergreen State College 103-74 in a
non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Brougham
Pavilion.
The Falcons (4-2) blew open the game early with
torrid shooting. They made 57 percent of the their field goals
first-half and scored 17 unanswered points to take a 32-10 lead
midway through the period.
Hubbard (Sr., 6-5, Inglewood, Ca.) scored 14 of
his points before intermission and Harris (So., Fox Island,
Wa./Gig Harbor) 11 of his career-high total. Together they were
5-5 on three-pointers.
All three treys by Harris plus one each by
Johnson (Jr., 6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) and Darrell
Walker (Sr., 6-0, Marysville, Wa./M-P) came during the 17-0 run. A
Hubbard bomb triggered another 13-3 burst at the end of the half,
after which SPU led 55-27
The Geoducks (2-7), who never got closer than
24 points in the second half, were led by the 20 points of both
Tarleton Spencer and Jackie Robinson. The Geoducks, playing their
third game in five days, shot just 39 percent (23-59), including
31 percent in the first half.
Seattle Pacific finished 51 percent (35-69)
from the field, hit 11-20 three-pointers and out-rebounded
Evergreen 53-25. Johnson collected eight boards and reserve center
Chris Cohen (Fr., Saint Helens, Or.) seven.
Also scoring in double figures for the Falcons
were Walker with 12 and Daniel Sandrin with 11. Brannon Stone
(Jr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) contributed eight assists, four
blocked shots and nine points.
The Falcons visit Lewis-Clark State Wednesday
night and then host Willamette in another non-conference game Dec.
18 before the Christmas break.
