NAMPA, Id.-Gus Balogh scored a game high 27
points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Seattle Pacific University
dropped Northwest Nazarene 79-68, in a Pacific West Conference
women's basketball game Saturday night at Montgomery Fieldhouse.
Balogh (Sr., Szombathely, Hungary) hit a short
jumper to open up the scoring at 19:36. The Falcons racked up
leads of 13 and 15 two different times in the first period and
never trailed in the game. SPU was ahead 33-32 at intermission.
Balogh accounted for eight of her game high 10
rebounds in the second half and connected on 11 of 17 field goal
attempts in the game on the way to her first double-double of the
season.
Seattle Pacific shot 43.3 percent as a team to
Northwest Nazarene's 34.3 percent. The Falcons posted a
one-rebound advantage on the boards, edging the Crusaders 46-45.
Stephanie Urrutia (So., Sunnyside, Wa.) dropped
in a career-high 16 points on six of 10 shooting for SPU and
teammate Valerie Gustafson (Fr., Black Hills, Wa.) scored 11.
Point Guard Kerie Hughes (So., Mount Vernon)
assisted on seven plays and stole the ball five times.
Chelsey Hall paced the Crusaders with 20
points.
The Falcons (2-0, 5-0), picked to finish first
in the PacWest Conference in a preseason poll, are undefeated and
head to Bellingham for a pivotal game against last year's
conference champion, Western Washington, Saturday night (Dec. 9).
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00.
