McMINNVILLE, Ore. (Dec. 2) -- Coming off the
bench for the first time this season, hot-shooting John Hubbard
scored 24 points and Gene Woodard added 20 in his first start as
18th-ranked Seattle Pacific University pounded Linfield College
110-67 in a non-conference men's basketball game at Wilson Gym
Saturday night.
Coach Ken Bone, shuffling three new starters
into his lineup following a Pacific West Conference loss at
Western Washington Thursday, saw the Falcons (0-1, 3-2) shoot a
sizzling 68 percent (41-60) from the field, including 6-10
3-pointers.
The 43-point margin was the biggest by an SPU
team playing on the road.
Woodard (So., 6-4, Edmonds, Wa./O'Dea), making
his first collegiate start, scored six of his points in the first
two minutes as Seattle Pacific bolted to a big early lead. Abe Fox
(Jr., 6-8, Port Townsend, Wa.) contributed six straight points
during a decisive 18-2 run which put the Falcons ahead 28-10 after
only eight minutes. Fox finished with a career-high 12 points.
Hubbard (Sr., 6-5, Inglewood, Ca.), who along
with Brannon Stone (Jr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) began the game on
the bench, connected on his final three shots of t he half,
including a deep 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining in the period
for a 56-38 advantage at halftime. He finished 9-13 from the
floor, 4-5 from outside the arc.
Eric Sandrin (Jr., 6-10, Bothell,
Wa./Shorecrest) scored 19 and hauled down a game-high nine
rebounds.
Linfield (1-1), which shot just 39 percent
(23-59) and committed 25 turnovers, was topped by the 16 of Grant
Ebright.
The Falcons will next host Evergreen State in a
non-conference game Saturday night at 7.
