SEATTLE, Wa.-Gus Balogh scored a game high 14
points and Kerie Hughes had 13 as Seattle Pacific University
opened its PacWest Conference season with a 65-49 win over rival
Seattle University, Thursday night at Connelly Center.
The Falcons pulled ahead mid way through the
first half did not trail the rest of the game. SPU headed into the
locker room at half time with a 33-30 advantage.
Balogh (Sr., Szombathely, Hungary) was four of
five from the free throw line on the night and Hughes (So., Mount
Vernon) tallied a game high seven assists. The sophomore point
guard also stole the ball seven times.
Four Falcons scored in double figures.
Stephanie Urrutia (Sunnyside, Wa.) and Kristin Poe (So., Enumclaw,
Wa.) dropped in 10 points apiece. Poe pulled down a team high five
rebounds.
The Redhawks were paced by the 11 points of
Courtney Tinsley.
Germaine Espinoza contributed 10. Seattle U.
out-rebounded Seattle Pacific 30-24, but a stingy Falcon defense
held the Redhawks to just 30 shots in the game. Seattle Pacific
shot 23 of 56 on the night.
The Falcons (1-0, 4-0) meet Northwest Nazarene
in Nampa, Idaho, in another PacWest Conference game Friday night.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00.
