SEATTLE, Wa.-Gus Balogh had a game high 21
points and Kristin Poe had 18 as Seattle Pacific University opened
its season at home by beating Southern Colorado 88-63, in a
women's basketball game Wednesday night at Brougham Pavilion.
Balogh (Sr., Szombatheley, Hungary) scored the first basket of the
game, but the Falcons went scoreless for the next 11:30 as
Southern Colorado put together a 12-0 run.
Balogh and Liz Guppy (Sr., Beaverton,
Or./Westview) ended the drought, each connecting on short-range
jumpers to breathe life into the Falcons. Guppy came off the bench
to score six points in two minutes. Seattle Pacific went into the
locker room with a 42-31 halftime lead.
SPU scored the first nine points of the second
half and never looked back.
Kristin Poe (So., Enumclaw, Wa.) pulled down 7
rebounds and had two steals to go with her 18 points on the night.
The sophomore guard was a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line.
Kerie Hughes (So., Mount Vernon, Wa.) assisted on a game high 8
plays and freshman Valerie Gustafson (Black Hills, Wa.) dropped in
19 points and tallied 9 rebounds.
The Falcons forced Southern Colorado into 37
turnovers on the night.
Seattle Pacific (3-0) is off for Thanksgiving
before meeting up with cross-town rival Seattle University,
November 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00.
