ELLENSBURG, Wa.-Becka Beard's career high 23
points led six Falcons in double figures as Seattle Pacific
University blew out Pacific University (of Oregon) in a women's
basketball game 101-57 Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Classic
in Ellensburg.
Beard (So., Bremerton, Wa./King's West)
connected on 6 of 7 shots from the field and was a perfect 8 for 8
from the free throw line.
Gus Balogh (Sr., Szombathy, Hungary) dropped in
22 points for Seattle Pacific and Kristin Poe (So., Enumclaw, Wa.)
scored her second double-double of the year. The 5-9 sophomore
finished the night with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jana Holme
(Sr., Tacoma, Wa./Wilson scored 11 points and pulled down seven
boards for the Falcons.
Seattle Pacific forced 36 turnovers in the game
and out-rebounded Pacific 48-27. SPU held the Boxers to 15.8
percent shooting in the first half and 30 percent (13 of 44) for
the game.
The Falcons (2-0) are favored to win the
Pacific West Conference in 2001 and open the season at home with a
game against Southern Colorado Wednesday night. Tip-off is
scheduled for 7:00.
