Hubbard's 20 Paces SPU in Win over Simon Fraser
November 18, 2000

SEATTLE (Nov. 18) -- John Hubbard scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half and Nick Johnson added 13 as Seattle Pacific University coasted to a 79-58 exhibition win over Simon Fraser Saturday night in the second round of the Vitamilk Tip-Off Classic at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons led from start to finish and never allowed the Clan to pull closer than 10 points in the final 25 minutes.

Gene Woodard (So., 6-4, Edmonds, Wa./O'Dea) came off the bench for nine points and four rebounds in 13 minutes. It was Woodard who sparked Seattle Pacific during a 10-3 spurt late in the first half.

Johnson (Jr., 6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) and Woodard each scored four points in stretching the lead to 39-23. Hubbard (Sr., 6-5, Inglewood, Ca.) hit 4-6 six shots after intermission, making both of his treys. A Hubbard 15-footer gave SPU its biggest lead at 67-43 with 7:28 remaining.

Johnson was joined on the all-tournament team by Eric Sandrin (Jr., 6-10, Bothell, Wa./Shorecrest), the Falcons' center. Jeff Nelson of Seattle University and Cal State San Bernardino's Chris Mattice and Glenn Summerall completed the selections.

Peter Morgan led Simon Fraser with 13 points and Luke McKerrow had 10.

The Clan made just 42 percent of their field goals (17-41) and committed 17 turnovers. SPU shot 48 percent (29-60) and had just six turnovers.

SPU returns to action Friday night in Bellingham versus Texas A&M Kingsville in the Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic.
