SEATTLE (June 14) -- Amber Higgins, a
three-time All-America runner for Azusa Pacific, is transferring
to Seattle Pacific University for her final year of eligibility in
cross country and track & field. Higgins, a 1997 graduate of
LaConner High School, has primarily competed in relays and the
800-meter run during her college career.
Last month Higgins completed the Azusa Pacific
portion of her career at the NAIA Track & Field Championships,
running the second leg of the 1600 relay which finished second
nationally. During her sophomore season she was a member of the
1600 relay which won the NAIA indoor title. Each of the
All-America awards for Higgins were earned on relays.
At LaConner, Higgins was a two-time state B
champion in the 1600, winning that race as both a junior and
senior. She also ran in the 100 and 300 hurdles and relays at the
state level during her prep career.
Seattle Pacific, under Coach Jack Hoyt (1st
year), is the premier women's Division II track & field
program in the Northwest. In 2000 the Falcons won the Pacific West
Conference championships and sent eight qualifiers to the NCAA
Division II Championships. Overall, SPU has finished in the top 10
nationally eight times. |
