Premier thrower...
One of the premier discus throwers in the Washington prep
ranks, Lauren Kooy of Quincy High School, has signed a national
letter of intent to compete for Seattle Pacific University
beginning next year. Kooy, whose throw of 138 feet, 2 inches
ranked among the top 10 discus marks (all classifications) in the
state, finished fourth in both the state 2A discus (126-0) and
javelin (118-1) last month. She is the Falcons' second signee for
next season, joining distance runner Jamie Witt of Folsom, Ca.
Oh, be Kooy...
Kooy scored 13 of Quincy's 20 points at the state meet.
Besides the javelin and discus, she was sixth in the shot put
(33-11 1/2). Kooy was also fourth in the state discus as a junior.
She will compliment a Seattle Pacific team which won the Pacific
West Conference championship in 2000 despite scoring only six
points in the throws. The Falcons took 24th in the NCAA Division
II Championships, and will bring back all eight of their national
qualifiers next season.
About Seattle Pacific...
Seattle Pacific, under Coach Jack Hoyt (1st year), is the
premier women's Division II track & field program in the
Northwest, and has finished in the top 10 nationally eight times.
